Welcome to GermanAmericanBund.com
Welcome. I am James Calaski, a military historian and the founder of Hunting History, a historical research and genealogy company. With a Master’s degree in History and a background as a career law enforcement investigator, my focus has always been on uncovering the detailed, localized, and often overlooked chapters of our past—from the American Revolution to World War I sabotage.
Through Hunting History, I have spent years tracking down primary sources, presenting educational lectures, and piecing together forgotten local histories. This new website is an extension of that mission, serving as a dedicated digital archive for my specialized research into the German American Bund.
Much of my work on this subject—which originated with my graduate thesis and is currently being expanded into a book—focuses specifically on the network of summer camps and local units established by the Bund across the United States in the 1930s. This site will serve as a repository for that research, exploring how these camps operated, their historical context, and their impact on the surrounding communities.
A Note on the Purpose of This Site:
This is a strictly apolitical website created solely for research, educational, and historical purposes. This project is not affiliated with, nor does it condone, endorse, or support any hate group, extremist philosophy, or discriminatory ideology. The objective of this research is to document and examine a complex period of American history so that it can be accurately understood and objectively remembered.
I welcome questions, contributions and corrections.
